We represent 1500+ library, clerical and theatre workers at the University of British Columbia. We are spread out over several locations including the UBC Point Grey campus, UBC Robson Square, Vancouver General Hospital, B.C. Children’s & Women’s Hospital, St. Paul’s Hospital, Chan Centre and the UBC Research Forest.
Our members are our strength and there are many ways to have a say and get involved – voting during union elections, contract proposals and ratifications, sitting on a local committee, becoming a delegate to a labour convention, participating in union education and conferences and representing the local at community events like the International Women’s Day dinner, National Aboriginal Day or the pride parade.
Our General Membership meetings are held 9 times a year from 12-2pm (except July, August and December) and employer paid for any time that exceeds your lunch break. At these meetings, you will get a monthly report from your executive board, local committees and Business Agent. It’s at these meetings where you have direct say and input on the business of the local.
CUPE 2950 is a chartered local under the CUPE National Constitution and we are affiliated to CUPE BC, CUPE Metro and District Labour Council, Vancouver and District Labour Council and the BC Federation of Labour. We are active in the labour movement defending our public healthcare and education systems, fighting for fair taxation, protecting human rights, retirement security and many other social justice issues. Standing in solidarity with other workers is important in playing a part to make our communities safer, fairer and more inclusive.
I encourage you to participate and get involved with your union because together, our voice is stronger when we are united to ensure our colleagues are treated with respect and that our workplaces are safe and equitable.
In Solidarity,
Chloe Martin-Cabanne
President, CUPE 2950
