CUPE 2950 Professional Development Fund
The university maintains a Professional Development fund (see Article 21.08) to support learning activities that will enhance an employee’s current job performance as well as support skill development to assist in opportunities for transfer and promotion throughout the university.
Departments are required to provide on-the-job training. An employee is eligible for retraining when there has been a change in procedures, equipment, process or method of operation (see Article 19.05), and the department should provide or pay for training.
A maximum of $1,400.00 is allocated per fiscal year per member. This is not transferable to a member’s partner or dependent.
Members on the Recall List due to layoff or technological change have access to additional funding to improve skills or learn new ones.
These funds can be used for UBC and non-UBC courses both on and off campus. Staff members may use the CUPE 2950 PD Fund to offset the cost of UBC undergrad programs when the program is associated with a UBC career path ( guideline 4.5.10). Students are not covered.
For more information on the Professional Development fund, call Susanna Mulligan at 604-822-9273.
In addition to PD Funding, there are also free online interactive tutorials through LinkedIn Learning.
Included are a range of computer programs such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, OneNote, Outlook, Project, Publisher, and Visio), Dreamweaver, HTML, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Integration Series, InDesign, and Acrobat.
